Hong Kong Inline Cup 2006 Concludes for Another Year
The annual tournament for age groups and adults organized each November has come to a successful conclusion. Visiting teams from Taipei, Philippines, Australia, Korea, Singapore, Iran and UK joined Hong Kong squads for two great weekends of inline hockey.
8U and High School were added as new categories this year and drew 5 teams each. Congratulations to Taipei Tigers Yellow team for winning gold in 8U and Australia Digi for being the 1st champions of the High School division. Organizers look forward to expanding the teams in these divisions next year along with the ever popular men & women division and the 10U and 12U in the age groups.
The quality of play is obviously improving year by year and the is a very positive sign for the development of inline hockey in Asia. With the sport skyrocketing in popularity worldwide and vying for Olympic status, it is critical for Asian countries to continue to keep pace with the development of their training programs. The Hong Kong Inline Cup is a forum to help aspiring athletes to gain international experience and hone their competitive skills. The HKIC committee is now planning for 2007 and looking to make it even better than ever!
Special thanks to HKCIHA organizational partners in this annual event; Hong Kong Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), Hong Kong Federation of Roller Sport (HKFRS), FIRS / CIRILH (International Federation), YMCA of Hong Kong, Skate Australia and Canada Inline. Of course, a very special thank you to sponsors LCSD, MILO and Hitachi Data Systems, and to all the countries and clubs that participated in the 2006 HKIC. It truly is a fantastic cooperative effort that makes this annual event a success. Thank you all again.

Hong Kong Takes Silver at Asia Roller Sports Championships
Team Hong Kong Inline Hockey went to Korea on May 9 th ready to compete with the best of Asia at the Asia Roller Sports championships in Jeonju , Korea . Their first match was hours after an early morning arrival and they managed to battle fatigue, strange rink conditions and the team from Iran to gain their first victory. They won another match against Korea later that day, lost to Japan then tied Chinese Taipei. The medal round saw Team Hong Kong get a convincing win over Chinese Taipei to advance to the gold medal round. A spirited game against Japan showed Team Hong Kong's determination but they couldn't defeat a very strong Japanese squad. Still, a silver medal performance at its first major international inline hockey tournament is more than commendable.
Congratulations to our men's team! You brought honour to Hong Kong and our sport!!

The Y's KPCC centre manager, Doug Cole,
sent along a photo of the newly refurbished rink at their facility.
"Along with a complete new floor, we took the opportunity
to conduct major maintenance on other aspects of the rink, protective
netting, goal nets, players bench areas and so forth, " states
Doug. "This work is just in time for the start of a new season
and will serve us well for our 3rd annual international inline
tournament at the end of November", he adds.
Check it out yourself. The easiest way there is to take the MTR

Hong
Kong, China IHA Holds AGM
The
first Annual General Meeting of the Hong Kong, China Inline Hockey
Association was held on Friday September 19, 2003.

President David Wong
remarked that he was fully aware that inline hockey players would
much rather be at the rink working on their game skills rather
than meeting over administrative matters. None-the–less, all
agreed that it is important for the advancement of our sport to
have a properly constituted and managed organization. The reports
adopted at the meeting showed just that and more. The IHA not
only has an effective administrative system but great support
from members and community and quickly developing a track record
for excellence in sport development.
The meeting considered
and approved the various reports and shared hopes and aspirations
for the sport’s development.
Now, back to the rink
for training and league action. See you all next year, and in
the meantime – “ Keep those Wheels Rollin’”.
